Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland moCa
Between 11 AM and 4 PM each day, you can become part of the art at moCa. Bring an article of clothing to have it repaired or artistically embellished by one of our volunteer menders. The Mending Project invites you to sit and talk with a volunteer who will mend or embellish a garment that you bring with you. Our volunteer may ask you questions like: What does this garment mean to you? Where did you get it? What memories do you have with it? Installation view, Lee Mingwei: You Are Not a Stranger. "Gordon Parks: The New Tide, Early Work 1940–1950" focuses on the first and most formative decade of the groundbreaking artist’s 60-year career, beginning with his full immersion in the Chicago Black Renaissance. This Friday at 7:00 p.m., join us in the Ames Family Atrium for Salon: Gordon Parks, a casual dialogue with Gillian Johns (Oberlin College), Daniel Gray Kontar (Twelve Literary Arts) and Tonika Johnson (Chicago-based artist and community advocate) on Gordon Parks. We’ll discuss the influence that Ralph Ellison, Richard Wright, and Langston Hughes had on Parks during the Chicago Black Renaissance and the ongoing relevance of Parks’s work today. FREE.
